Neurological Physiotherapy

A Neurological physiotherapist specialises in treatment for people with conditions that affect the brain, spinal cord or nerves.

The therapist will start by analysing your movement, posture, muscle strength and tone in order to establish where difficulties need to be addressed. The therapist combines this with knowledge of neurological structures and the way they work, alongside evidence from research, to influence treatment strategies focused on your priorities and goals.

In treatment the therapist will use a combination of techniques, including specialist ‘hands on’ techniques and facilitation of movement as well as functional movements and strengthening. This acts to re-educate and guide movement and address tight muscles and soft tissue around joints. Often repetitive practice of new movements is needed in sessions and home exercise, prescribed for a person’s specific needs, will establish and promote lasting change.

Neurological physiotherapy can be useful and indeed vital for people with a neurological condition at any stage, either early after the event or diagnosis or later on. The goals may differ at different points in a condition or length of time since injury, but the focus and ultimate aim is always to assist the person with what they wish to achieve, maximizing recovery, improving ability and participation in different aspects of life.

Neuro Physio Works offers a comprehensive specialist neurological physiotherapy assessment and treatment, including agreeing goals and working with you to achieve these.
